Springfield Park Vandalism 08 Jun 12

The Springfield Police Department is investigating recent incidents of vandalism at the city’s Riverside Park. A total of 14 solar-powered lights along the park’s walking path were damaged, and a light pole was pulled out of the ground as well. The lights had motion detectors, timers, and solar panels, and were installed in the park in the Fall of 2010 by the Springfield High School YES Team, which raised $10,000 for the project. A cost estimate of the damages is being prepared, and the City of Springfield’s insurance is expected to cover the cost of replacing the lights, after a $1,000 deductible is paid.
