The Sleepy Eye School Board on Thursday approved the district’s budget for the 2012-2013 school year. The budget will see a total fund balance decrease for District 84 of more than $88,000. Total General Fund expenditures for the upcoming school year will increase by nearly $66,000, to just over $6-million as well. In other business Thursday, the Board finalized switching the district’s food services to Minnetonka-based Taher Incorporated for next school year. The plan is to switch all of Sleepy Eye’s food service employees currently employed through the district to Taher with the same hours, positions and benefits. The company will hire a Food Service Manager from outside the school to oversee the program. The Board also approved a 2-year High School Principal contract on Thursday which will increase the principal’s pay by 2.5% the first year and by 1.75%, to a little more than $86,700 for the second year.
