The Sleepy Eye City Council on Tuesday gave the go-ahead for Sleepy Eye firefighters to put on a 4th of July fireworks display for the city this year. The license of the firefighter who had previously put on Sleepy Eye’s fireworks show has expired, so a Mankato pyrotechnician will now assist firefighters with the display. In other business on Tuesday, the Sleepy Eye City Council approved of the sale of $2.7-million in bonds for the city’s 2012 street and utility projects. A special assessment levy against the properties that benefit from the road work will cover about 28% of the cost. The council also accepted a $1.4-million bid for renovations on the Snow Farm property recently purchased by Sleepy Eye.
