The Blue Earth County Board on Tuesday awarded the contract for the $7.6-million extension of County Road 12 at Highway 14, work that includes the construction of a new interchange for the intersection as well. Mathiowetz, Construction of Sleepy Eye was the low bidder for the project, which came in just over the engineer’s estimate. The federal government is paying for around 80% of the project, with Blue Earth County and the City of Mankato splitting the rest. When the work is completed later this year, Blue Earth County Road 12 will end at County Road 17, also called Madison Avenue. Plans eventually call for a roundabout at that location as well. The new interchange will also include roundabouts in the approaches to the bridge.
