The Redwood Falls City Council on Tuesday unanimously approved a Social Host ordinance for the community. The new law gives Redwood Falls police the right to issue citations and fine responsible parties when underage people are gathered and consuming alcoholic beverages. Any citations issued would be at the discretion of police, and according to the ordinance the responsible party can be a property owner, renter, “person in immediate control of the property,” or the party’s host or organizer. There would have to be “reasonable knowledge” of the underage drinking that could be proven without a doubt. Numerous other cities and counties in the local area have enacted similar laws in recent years.
