Eminent domain proceedings are underway as the installation of high-voltage power lines spanning the state begins. Land rights agents have been working with local property owners on purchasing easements for the CapX 2020 power lines stretching from the Cedar Mountain Substation in Renville County to the Helena Substation in Scott County. That section of the project is part of a larger effort to bring a higher electricity supply to large areas of the state. The last major upgrade of the region’s electric infrastructure was 3 decades ago. The CapX 2020 project has an overall price tag of $1.7-billion, and consumers will likely see an increase of an average of $2 on their monthly bills. The construction is expected to be completed in 2015.
