A race has developed for the Ward 1 New Ulm City Council seat currently held by Ruth Ann Webster. Joel Boehlke filed for the seat on Tuesday. The New Ulm High School graduate has a degree in technology education from MSU-Mankato and worked as the automotive instructor for New Ulm High School for many years before the program was eliminated by budget cuts. Boehlke says that if elected he will focus on improved communication between the city council and New Ulm residents, including more person-to-person interactions. He says he also plans to work on better defining where the council should use its influence. Ruth Ann Webster has served 3 terms as the Ward 1 New Ulm City Councilor.
