The DNR is disappointed with the number of aquatic invasive species violations in Minnesota so far this season. The preliminary figures show 193 criminal citations, 463 civil citations and 973 written warnings. Enforcement Officer Phil Meier is urging boaters to spread the word about removing boat plugs and cleaning off aquatic species and plants, and feels that boaters may be more apt to listen if they hear the message from their peers, rather than the state. Meier says the DNR will continue to educate Minnesotans and lake associations about the aquatic invasive species regulations. Every conservation officer in the state has been directed to put in an additional 20 hours of enforcement this year.
