Today (SAT) is National Get Outdoors Day, when admission is free to all 75 Minnesota State Parks and recreation areas. In conjunction with that, the Department of Natural Resources has designated this the Take-A-Kid Fishing weekend. Adults who accompany kids under 16 while fishing can fish without a license through Sunday. The DNR’s Pat Arndt says that Minnesota’s annual Take-A-Kid Fishing weekend is meant to rekindle childhood memories, as well as make new ones and help create the next generation of anglers. State parks will also be using the free weekend to launch an all-new statewide challenge called the Geocaching Avian Adventure, in which camouflaged “Bird Cache” containers will be hidden in every one of Minnesota’s state parks and recreation areas. Several other parks are also holding family-friendly Get Outdoors events this weekend. For more information, go to the DNR’s website.
