Fatal Crash Investigation 07 Jun 12

The State Patrol has determined that an Arlington man who died in a car crash that also killed a 7-year-old boy had fallen asleep at the wheel at the time. 47-year-old Robert Mercier of Arlington was driving a Ford Taurus westbound on Highway 12 through the Wright County community of Montrose on February 10th when his vehicle veered off the highway at just after 8am and struck 7-year-old Hayden Solien of Montrose while he was waiting for a school bus. The car then hit a tree and rolled, and both Mercier and Solien were pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators say Mercier was on his way home at the time after working an overnight shift when he apparently fell asleep while driving.
