Drunk Boating Crackdown 21 Jun 12

Department of Natural Resources officials are cracking down on drunk boating as a part of the nationwide “Operation Dry Water.” The penalties for boating under the influence range from a $1,000 fine to jail time. DNR Conservationist Bob Geving says that while those consequences may be harsh, officials feel they are necessary. Half of all the boating fatalities in 2011 involved alcohol. The increase in BUI enforcement with Operation Dry Water is meant to create high visibility prior to the 4th of July holiday.
