State Drug Program Investigation 10 May 12

A program designed to train officers on how to spot if someone is using drugs is being suspended while authorities investigate claims that a Hutchinson police officer gave marijuana to a potential subject. Another officer reportedly saw the incident and reported it, leading to a criminal investigation this week as well as the state’s drug evaluation and classification program being investigated internally. The program trains officers on how to detect and remove impaired drivers from the road. It came under fire last week also after activists claimed officers from a variety of agencies picked up people from downtown Minneapolis and gave them illegal drugs and incentives to participate in the program.
