The Sleepy Eye School Board on Wednesday approved part-time cuts to several school programs. The board approved partial cuts to the Sleepy Eye band program, as well as art, social studies, business and Family and Consumer Science. The cuts are projected to save District 84 an estimated $25,000 on next year’s budget. They were approved on a 5-2 vote, with Ron Geiger and Casey Coulson casting the dissenting votes. in other business, the Sleepy Eye School Board approved a resolution for Taher Inc. to provide food services for the district beginning next school year. The decision came after a lengthy discussion. School officials say that hiring an outside firm to manage food services instead of district employees is being done to improve service and food quality. Contract details with Taher are yet to be arranged and will be discussed at later meetings.
