Rural Post Offices Saved 11 May 12

A new plan coming out of the US Senate will reportedly save the United States Postal Service around $500-million a year, and keep numerous rural post offices from closing. The proposal calls for cutting the hours of operation for over 13,000 post offices, including nearly 60 in the KNUJ area. Residents would be able to choose if their facilities close down or cut their hours. If the new proposal is approved after public input on the plan is gathered this Fall it would go into effect in 2014. Changes to the proposal to close over 250 mail processing centers will be announced next week.
