NASCAR Series Hits Minnesota
(Brainerd, MN) — This is a heavy motorsports weekend at Brainerd International Raceway in northern Minnesota. The NASCAR K&N Pro Series will race a 50-lap road course event this afternoon after a full morning of practice and qualifying is scheduled. The NASCAR K&N Pro Series is a development racing program for young drivers who are wanting to work their way up to the higher circuits of NASCAR. The Sports Car Club of America will also be racing on the road course at varying times over the weekend. In addition, the B-I-R drag strip will be busy with competition from the Muscle Car Series all weekend long. The entire weekend is part of the raceway’s Fourth Annual Street Car Showdown.
Coca-Cola 600 This Weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway
(Concord, NC) — NASCAR’s Sprint Cup Series returns to the Charlotte Motor Speedway this weekend for tomorrow’s Coca-Cola 600. Kevin Harvick is the defending race champ, while Jimmie Johnson won the All-Star Race in Charlotte last weekend. Greg Biffle still holds a two-point lead over Matt Kenseth in the Sprint Cup standings.
Wheldon’s Widow Receives 2011 Indy 500 Ring
(Speedway, IN) — Indianapolis Motor Speedway is remembering former driver Dan Wheldon ahead of this weekend’s Indy 500. Wheldon’s widow, Susie, was presented with his championship ring from 2011 during a ceremony at the track on Thursday. Wheldon won the Indy 500 last year, but was killed in a crash in the Izod IndyCar Series season finale in Las Vegas last October Suzie Wheldon is attending this year’s race with her two young sons and is expected to take part in activities throughout the weekend. The race is slated for tomorrow.
