Southern Minnesota Republican leaders have decided that there will be no endorsement for the party’s choice to run against Democratic Congressman Tim Walz this November. Instead, GOP candidates Allen Quist and Mike Parry will face off against each other in an August Primary to decide who moves on to the General Election in the Fall. During the 1st Congressional District convention a month ago, delegates from throughout southern Minnesota spent more than 14 hours deciding on a candidate, with neither ultimately getting the 60% support needed for the endorsement. Afterwards, both former State Representative Quist and State Senator Parry said that they will both run in the August 14th Primary, regardless of who would receive the party’s backing if another convention were to be held. Based on that, the GOP Central Committee on Tuesday voted to not schedule another convention.
