New Ulm Police Standoff 03 May 12

New Ulm police were involved in a standoff Wednesday night after a man refused to leave his home. Authorities closed off a section of 5th North Street between Broadway and Minnesota Street beginning at around 7pm Wednesday when the unidentified man at the home on the 400 block of North Broadway refused to open his door to the police. The reason for the visit is still unknown. The standoff ended after approximately an hour and a half when police breached the front door with a battering ram and riot shields and took the man into custody. Officials say he was believed to have been suffering from a mental health condition at the time. No one was injured during the incident, and more information is expected to be released later today (THU).
