A Coon Rapids man is in custody in the Nicollet County Jail after allegedly stabbing his mother in 7 Mile Creek Park south of St. Peter. The incident was reported to the Nicollet County Sheriff’s Office at shortly after 6pm Tuesday. When deputies arrived at the park they reportedly found 69-year-old Marlys Helen Olson of Coon Rapids being attacked by her son, 48-year-old Burton James Ewing Jr. Ewing was then taken into custody without incident and will likely faces charges of attempted homicide. Olson was airlifted from the scene with multiple stab wounds and her condition is not available. Ewing was charged with murder in 1998 after he beat his sister to death at her home in Shoreview. He was found not guilty by reason of mental illness, and was committed to the Minnesota Security Hospital in St. Peter.
