A planned detour on Highway 14 west of Mankato scheduled to begin this week has been delayed. The detour will be put in place while Mathiowetz Construction builds an interchange at Nicollet County Road 41 and expands more than a mile of two-lane Highway 14 to a four-lane expressway. The detour has now been delayed to June 23rd, and will last a shorter time than expected, because Mathiowetz came up with a strategy for doing more preliminary work with the road still open to traffic. The detour is expected to be up through late September. People traveling to Mankato from the west and south of the Minnesota River are being encouraged to use Highway 68 while the roadwork is underway. The 2-year Highway 14 project will cost around $18-million.
