Honor Guard Stipends Increased 03 May 12

Governor Dayton has signed a bill into law that increases the stipends paid to Honor Guard members for attending veterans’ funerals in Minnesota. The Honor Guard program reimburses veterans organizations to assist with payment for military funeral honors. The new legislation approved by the governor and authored by Waseca Senator Mike Parry raises participating Honor Guard stipends from $35 to $50 per-day. The issue came to light last fall over concerns that state funding for Honor Guard detail was to be discontinued due to budget cuts.
