A 19-year-old New Ulm man has been sentenced to 5 years of supervised probation after being convicted of felony theft. Tyler James Duane Steinmetz was accused of stealing a $1,500 bicycle from outside of the New Ulm Medical Center. The theft was captured by a surveillance camera at the hospital, and Steinmetz was identified as being at the scene. He was also given credit for the 142 days he served in jail for the crime, and was ordered to perform 40 hours of Sentence To Service work. Steinmetz is also currently on probation for stealing a truck from the New Ulm Civic Center parking lot last July.
