Investigators have determined that a fire that caused the evacuation of the Lincoln School in Fairmont on Friday was intentionally set. The fire started on the stage area of the school’s north gym at around 9:25 Friday morning, and the school’s sprinklers activated shortly thereafter, extinguishing the flames before firefighters arrived. Authorities say that it appears that the curtain on the stage was intentionally set on fire, and students at the school’s Alternative Learning Center are being questioned about the blaze. No criminal charges have been filed at this time. Damage to the building is being estimated at around $20,000. The state fire marshall’s office is assisting with the investigation.
