Downtown New Ulm Fire 03 May 12

The New Ulm Fire Department responded to a fire call at a downtown New Ulm business this (THU) morning. Firefighters were called out to the Herberger’s building on the 100 Block of North Minnesota Street at around 5:30am.

New Ulm Fire Chief Macho says that the fire was behind the front façade of one of the buildings occupied by Herberger’s, and firefighters had to pull off a stucco panel to extinguish it. All 35 members of the 3 companies of the New Ulm Fire Department responded, and were on the scene for about 2 hours. No injuries occurred, and the damage was to the exterior of the building only and Herberger’s is open for business as usual today. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but is not believed to be electrical in nature.
