County Commissioner Retiring 17 May 12

Martin County District 5 Commissioner Jack Potter has announced that he will not be seeking re-election this fall. Martin County’s 5th District covers the northwestern corner of the county, including part of the City of Fairmont as well as all of Northrop and Trimont. Potter has held the seat since 2001. The nearly-79-year-old says that while health problems are a major reason for his decision to retire, he also thinks it’s time for someone new, and younger. The Martin County District 1 and 3 county commissioner seats will also be on the ballot this fall. The filing period for public offices begins next Tuesday, and closes June 5th. Primary elections will be held August 14th where needed, with the general election then taking place on November 6th.
