Work has begun on the segment of the new CapX 2020 high-voltage power lines that begin at the Cedar Mountain Substation in Renville County and stretch east through the KNUJ area to Scott County. Work includes clearing trees and laying cement foundations for electrical poles, and concludes with stringing the electrical line. The majority of this construction will be completed with trucks and cranes but some aerial work using helicopters may be used as well. This section is part of a larger effort to bring a higher electricity supply to large area of the state. The project has an overall price tag of $1.7-billion, and consumers will likely see an increase of an average of $2 on their monthly bills. The construction is expected to be completed in 2015.
