Southern Minnesota Republican Congressional Candidate Allen Quist has announced that he will forgo his party’s nomination and move on to a primary election in August. This comes after the recent 1st Congressional District GOP Convention ended at 2am without a candidate being selected. Quist says someone must now lead the way forward. Quist is a former State Representative from rural St. Peter. His opponent for the Republican nomination is State Senator Mike Parry of Waseca. Parry says that while he’s disappointed that Quist “Broke His Word” by forsaking the nomination process, he looks forward to taking the conversation to the broader public. The winner of the primary election on August 14th will run against Democratic Congressman Tim Walz in November.
