Small grain planting is advancing at a strong pace in Minnesota, aided by last week’s warm, dry weather. The USDA in its weekly crop weather report for Minnesota released Monday said that spring wheat advanced 22-percentage points to 25% planted, compared with 0% last year and 1% for the 5-year average. Oats advanced 31 points to 49% planted, compared with none last year and a 5% average. Barley was 18% planted as well, compared with 0% last year and a 2% average. Four percent of Minnesota’s oats and 1% of the state’s barley have emerged. Statewide average temperatures were 9.7 degrees above normal last week.
