Southern Minnesota Congressman Tim Walz is optimistic that the Veterans Skills to Jobs Act will be passed this year. The bill would help veterans use the skills they learned in the military to find employment when they return home. Walz says combat medics are performing heroically in the line of duty, and deserve to find work in the medical field when they return. Walz says they are also asking the Pentagon to give soldiers who drive trucks in Afghanistan extra credit hours so they can earn commercial drivers licenses. He believes the bill will receive bi-partisan support in the House and Senate. Around 3,000 Minnesota National Guard soldiers will be returning home from Afghanistan and Kuwait in the coming weeks.
