The Sibley County Board will be re-addressing a proposal to bring high-speed internet access to rural and urban areas of the county during its meeting today (TUE). The board had tabled a vote on whether to support the Renville-Sibley Fiber Project during a meeting in late March in order for more communities and citizens to pledge their support for the $70-million project. The City of Arlington has opted out of the project. The Arlington City Council discussed the project at length again last week, and decided that the city will not reconsider it’s position. Numerous communities in Renville and Sibley Counties have pledged to support the fiber project, along with the Renville County Board. The Sibley County Board had asked for commitments from at least half of the affected households when the issue was tabled, and that threshold has reportedly been reached. The board is now scheduled to vote on whether the Sibley County will participate during its meeting this morning in Gaylord. The meeting begins at 10am.
