Visitors to historic sites in the City of New Ulm can now view video clips on the city’s history with their smart phones. A total of 16 QR Code Placards that can be scanned by compatible phones have been installed throughout the historic downtown New Ulm area to tell the story of the town’s heritage. The initiative was a collaborative effort between the New Ulm Retail Development Corporation and the Heritage Preservation Commission. Some of the cost of installing the placards was defrayed by funds from the Minnesota Main Street Program. The city is also the first community in the state to implement the TagWhat mobile phone app. TagWhat is described as a mobile encyclopedia that allows both business owners and customers to share their stories and experiences in New Ulm.
