The New Ulm City Council on Tuesday held a public hearing on over $3-million worth of proposed utility, street and alley improvements for 2012, declared the Ward 2 seat formerly held by Todd Olson vacant, and in an addendum to the evening’s agenda agreed to annex land on the west end of town. The annexation allows the city to construct a roundabout on Highway 14 that is required by Mn/DOT in order for a proposed Menard’s store to be constructed. That project is reportedly nearly ready to get underway. In the business of the vacant council seat, Ward 2 residents who would like to serve on the council should submit a letter of interest and resume to city officials no later than Noon on Monday, April 23rd. Interviews will then be conducted on Thursday, April 26th and Monday, April 30th, with the selected applicant being appointed to the seat May 1st. The seat will then appear on the November ballot for the remaining 2 years of Olson’s term.
