Montevideo Murder Case 13 Apr 12

A mental health evaluation to determine whether a Montevideo man charged with murder is competent to stand trial has been completed. 24-year-old Darek Jon Nelson has been charged with 2nd-degree murder with intent, 1st-degree manslaughter, and 2 counts of 2nd-degree assault for the stabbing death of 18-year-old Vinessa Lozano. She was killed the night of January 13th in front of the Montevideo Pizza Ranch, where the 2 worked together. The judge in the case has received the mental health report and ordered that it be closed, and a hearing has been scheduled for Nelson in late May, meaning that the criminal proceedings against him will move forward. Nelson allegedly told authorities that he was upset with Lozano for not returning feelings he held toward her. He allegedly said that if she “treated him badly, he was going to kill her.”
