A 79-year-old Cosmos man was killed in a car crash in Renville County on Sunday. The accident occurred at approximately 11:45am at the intersection of County Roads 5 and 4, about 6 miles south of Bird Island. A westbound Dodge Caravan driven by 63-year-old by Beverly Roback of New Brighton collided with a southbound Pontiac Grand Am driven by Lester Schultz, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Roback and her passenger, 88-year-old Leslie Shore of Minneapolis suffered non life-threatening injuries and were taken to the Renville County Hospital for treatment. The Minnesota State Patrol is assisting the Renville County Sheriff’s Office with the investigation into the crash.
A 49-year-old man from Kentucky was killed in a head-on crash with a semi-truck on Highway 59 south of Marshall Monday morning. The highway was closed for a few hours following the fatal accident. Authorities say that Mace Eden of Olice Hill, Kentucky was partially ejected when his 1994 Oldsmobile Cutlass drifted over the centerline and hit the semi at just after 5:30am. Eden was not wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced dead on the scene. The driver of the semi, 64-year-old Michael Sontag of Minneota was treated for minor injuries in Marshal and later released. The State Patrol says that Sontag attempted to avoid the collision but was unable to. He was wearing a seatbelt. Both vehicles were totaled.
