Criminal Sex Probation Violation 05 Apr 12

A former Sleepy Eye High School teacher serving a 25-year probation sentence for having a sexual relationship with a student will be spending 2 weekends in jail for violating his probation. 50-year-old Calvin Collum of New Ulm was convicted of 3rd-degree criminal sexual conduct in 2009 after the relationship with the 16-year-old student was discovered. He has been undergoing an adult sex offender treatment program since March of 2010, but his probation has now been violated for consuming alcohol, fantasizing about former students, shoplifting, and using a relative’s credit card without permission. Collum has been ordered to report to the Brown County Jail April 21st & 22nd and May 5th & 6th for the violations. He will be allowed to remain in treatment, provided he complies with several requirements, including submitting to a polygraph examination every six months to ensure he is being honest.
