A Montevideo man has admitted to stealing $40,000 worth of steers from a feedlot in Madison. 40-year-old Richard Kenneth Nelson pleaded guilty to two counts of possessing stolen property for stealing the 23 steers from the Lac qui Parle County farm in late January. Investigators found the missing cattle at livestock auctions in Pipestone and Benson, with Nelson’s name listed as the seller. When confronted, Nelson reportedly admitted to selling the animals, but said they were his. He now faces up to 20 years in prison and a $100,000 fine.
