The storm that blew through the area Monday evening was packing high winds and heavy rain, and ripped the roofs off homes in the City of Elysian. Le Sueur County Emergency Management Director Ann Traxler says the storm swept across Lake Elysian and hit the north side of Lake Francis at just after 6:30pm Monday. Traxler says no one was hurt or killed. But she says “lots of roofs” were blown off and power was knocked out. The majority of area residents have since had their power restored. National Weather Service meteorologist Tony Zaleski estimates winds were in excess of 70 mph, and there was an unverified report of a tornado. An investigation into if it was a tornado or straight-line winds that hit the town will likely begin today (TUE).
