The Sleepy Eye City Council on Tuesday unanimously approved a bid for the city’s 2012 Street and Utility Projects. The low bid of $3.1-million went to M-R Paving and Excavating. Sleepy Eye will issue bonds for about $1.8-million and use $1.2-million in cash for the project. In other business during Tuesday’s meeting, the Sleepy Eye City Council approved of a proposal to construct two 12×24-foot cabins at Sportsman’s Park this spring and summer for up to $40,000. The cabins will have steel siding, a knotty pine interior, insulated floors, electricity and running water, and city officials say they will pay for themselves within five years if rented throughout the spring, summer and early fall. The cabins will be paid for using city reserve funds. Donations will be solicited as well.
