Skull Found Along MN River 13 Mar 12

The Nicollet County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a piece of human skull was found along the Minnesota River on Sunday. A rock hunter found the piece of bone along the river in Belgrade Township south of St. Peter, and deputies brought it to MSU anthropologist Kathleen Blue, who confirmed that it was from an adult human and is likely several hundred years old. Blue speculated that the piece of skull was perhaps that of a Native American or early settler whose burial site was disrupted by rushing water. Investigators were unable to find any other evidence at the spot where the bone was found, and it was sent to the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s office and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension Laboratory in St. Paul for further examination.
