The 45th annual New Ulm Rotary Scholars Recognition Banquet was held Monday night. The banquet recognizes the academic top 15% of graduating seniors from all three New Ulm High Schools. The annual “Service Above Self” award and scholarship was also presented to one member of each school’s graduating class for their service to their school, the community and their own personal development. The New Ulm High School Service Above Self recipient was Miriam Henning, the daughter of Paul and Linda Henning. The Cathedral High School Service Above Self winner was John Hayes, the son of Tom and Patti Hayes, and the Minnesota Valley Lutheran recipient of the award was Kate Ruschmeyer, the daughter of Ryan and Sheila Ruschmeyer. The guest speaker for the evening was KARE-11 TV Sports Director Randy Shaver, who established the Randy Shaver Cancer Research and Community Fund.
