A state representative has filed papers to run for the state Senate seat held by the late Senator Gary Kubly. Representative Lyle Koenen, a Democrat from Clara City, says he knows he can’t replace Kubly but he hopes to reflect his values. Kubly died March 2nd after a battle with Lou Gehrig’s disease. He was 68. Koenen has served in the House of Representatives since 2002 and has been a committee member of the pivotal Taxes Committee, amongst others. He is also former chair of the Veterans Affairs Division. The filing period for those interested in running for Kubly’s seat runs through 5pm today (TUE), with a special election then set for April 10th. If a primary is necessary it will be held March 27th.
