A former high school girls basketball coach accused of having a sexual relationship with one of his students was sentenced to 120 days in jail and 7 years of probation for the crime on Wednesday in Blue Earth County Court. 29-year-old Steve Andrew Campbell of Lake Crystal pleaded guilty to 5 felony counts of 3rd-degree criminal sexual conduct in January as part of a plea deal. His relationship with the 17-year-old girl included having coached her with the Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial School District as well as providing her religious counseling and hiring her as an employee on his farm. The 2 reportedly had sex multiple times. Campbell will be given credit for the 62 days he has already spent in jail. Minnesota sentencing guidelines call for him to serve two-thirds of his sentence, meaning he will spend another 18 days in jail. He will also be required to register as a sex offender.
