The Brown County DFL Party held it’s annual convention on Sunday in New Ulm, and a challenger for the new District 16 Senate seat came forward. The seat covers Brown, Redwood, Yellow Medicine and Lac Qui Parle counties, and Republican Senator Gary Dahms of Redwood Falls is the incumbent. His new challenger will be former state representative Ted Suss. The superintendent of the Wabasso School District announced his retirement from that job earlier this year in order to run for public office. He served in the Minnesota Legislature from 1975 to 1978, and says the key policy issues he will push for are tax reform for middle-income families, affordability of post-secondary education and improving transportation infrastructure. Sunday’s Brown County DFL convention also focused on selecting delegates to advance on to the DFL district convention, and narrowed down party platform suggestions to be submitted to the state party.
