The continued warm weather led the Le Sueur County Sheriff’s Office to issue a thin ice warning on Tuesday, with authorities recommending that larger fish houses on area lakes be removed immediately. Le Sueur County Sheriff Tom Doherty says they are strongly recommending that there be no further vehicle traffic on any Le Sueur County lakes as well. Several lakes in that area reportedly have open water, including Lake Tatonka and Lake Washington. There have been cases of snowmobiles, ATVs, and even a fish house falling into the water in Le Sueur County this winter, although no one has been hurt. Doherty says the normal ice thickness this time of year is around 24 inches, but that the max they’ve seen so far has been 13 inches.
