(Minneapolis, MN) – The Minnesota Timberwolves will not have star player Kevin Love when they host Sacramento tonight at the Target Center. Love was suspended for two games for stepping on the upper body of Houston Rockets forward Luis Scola. He will miss tomorrow’s game at Memphis, as well. The Wolves are at the .500 mark through 24 games, a marked improvement over where they were a year ago at this time. Tonight’s tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
Wild At Columbus
(Columbus, OH) – The Minnesota Wild will see a familiar face on the opposing bench tonight when they go against the Columbus Blue Jackets. The man who coached Minnesota the two previous seasons is now the interim head coach of the Blue Jackets. Todd Richards took over last month and this will be the first time he faces his old club. Minnesota has a pair of 4-2 wins over the Blue Jackets this season, but both wins came before November 15th. Tonight’s game starts at 6 p.m.
(Burnsville, MN) – Minnesota State-Moorhead wrestler Cory Ulmer of Wishek, North Dakota is the NSIC Wrestler of the Week. Ulmer is the number-two wrestler in NCAA Division Two in the 125-pound weight division. He won two matches over the weekend including an upset of the top-ranked grappler in the weight class.
Track And Field Athletes Honored
(St. Paul, MN) – The men’s and women’s indoor track and field Athletes of the Week have been announced for the MIAC. Bethel sprinter Jordon Spronk of Pipestone is the men’s track winner. The senior ran the fourth-fastest 400-meter dash in school history at a meet over the week. Gustavus Adolphus junior Josh Owens of Brooklin Park is the men’s field winner. He set a new school record in the pole vault. Saint Benedict runner Julia Renner of Shoreview is the women’s field winner after turning in one of the top performances in the nation this year in the pentathlon. Carleton senior runner Alison Smyth of Billings, Montana is the female track winner after winning the mile run in a Carleton event.
Swimmers And Divers Win Weekly Accolades
(St. Paul, MN) – The MIAC has announced its weekly award winners in men’s and women’s swimming and diving. Carleton sophomore Jesse Gourevitch of Ardlsey, New York is the men’s Swimmer of the Week. Meanwhile, Carleton junior swimmer Erin McDuffie of Anchorage, Alaska is the women’s Swimmer of the Week.
Swarm Captain Named All-Star
(St. Paul, MN) – National Lacrosse League Minnesota Swarm captain Andrew Suitor has been chosen to take part in the NLL All-Star Game on February 25th in Buffalo. This is the 22-year-old Suitor’s first all-star selection. The Swarm returns to action for a doubleheader this weekend. Minnesota hosts Edmonton on Friday night at 7:30 p.m., and then host Rochester (NY) on Sunday at 2 p.m. Both games are at the Xcel Energy Center.
