Wild On Ice Today
(St. Paul, MN) — The Minnesota Wild have a late morning skate at the Xcel Energy Center today before leaving for Columbus, where they will skate against the Blue Jackets tomorrow night. The Wild remain in eighth position in the NHL Western Conference, which is a playoff spot. The team added a point in the standings with Saturday’s shootout loss at Dallas. After tomorrow night, the Wild return home for a key, four-game homestand. The puck drops tomorrow night at 6 p.m.

Timberwolves Continue
(Minneapolis, MN) — The Minnesota Timberwolves have a late morning practice scheduled at the Target Center today, getting prepared for tomorrow’s home game against the Sacramento Kings. The Wolves are 12-and-12 on the season, marking the latest in the season the team has had at least a .500 record since they were 22-and-22 in 2006-07. Compared to last season, Minnesota has doubled its win total through 24 games. A year ago, the Wolves were 6-and-18 after the first two dozen contests. Tomorrow’s game is set for 7 p.m.

Minnesota State-Mankato Adds Player
(Mankato, MN) — The Minnesota State-Mankato basketball team has added an international player to its roster. Assem Marei [[ AWE-sum MAR-ee ]] of Cairo, Egypt is eligible to play immediately, but will sit out the remaining games this season to preserve a full season of eligibility. Marei will have three full seasons to play for the Mavericks starting next year. He is a 6-foot-9 center who most recently was playing club basketball in Egypt. The Mavericks are currently 7-and-12 on the season.

Big Ten Honors
(Chicago, IL) — University of Iowa freshman men’s basketball player Aaron White has been named Big Ten Conference Freshman of the Week thanks in part to his contributions to the Hawkeyes’ win over Minnesota on Wednesday. White scored nine points and grabbed seven rebounds in that victory. White followed that with a 17-point game in Saturday’s Iowa win over Penn State. He shares the Freshman of the Week honor with Northwestern’s Dave Sobolewski. Northwestern’s John Shurna and Ohio State’s Jared Sullinger were named co-Players of the Week in the Big Ten.

Volleyball Champions Honored At Capitol
(St. Paul, MN) — Governor Mark Dayton hosted a gathering today for the NCAA Women’s Division Two national volleyball champions. The breakfast at the Capitol honored Concordia-St. Paul players and coaching staff after winning the championship back on December 3rd. It was the fifth straight national title for the Golden Bears.
