Wild Deal Two Defenseman At Trading Deadline
(Saint Paul, MN) — The Minnesota Wild had a busy trading deadline yesterday. The Wild completed two trades involving a pair of their best defenseman. The Wild shipped their longest tenured player Nick Schultz to Edmonton in exchange for Bloomington native Tom Gilbert early in the day. Then in the afternoon the Wild sent blue liner Greg Zannon to the Boston and received 23 year-old defensman Steven Kampfer from the Bruins. Gilbert is expected to play for the Wild tonight against the Kings in Saint Paul, while Kampfer will report to the Wild’s affiliate club in Houston.
Wild Host Kings
(Saint Paul, MN) — The Minnesota Wild will try to make it two in a row at home tonight when they welcome the Los Angeles Kings to town. The Kings come to town fresh off a 2-1 defeat at Nashville last night, meanwhile Minnesota has won three of their past four game. The Kings are one of three teams the Wild trail in the race for a playoff spot in the Western Conference. Expect the Wild to have a new face in the lineup tonight after trading for Minnesota native Tom Gilbert yesterday. If Gilbert does play for the Wild he will become the 43rd different play to skate for the Wild this season an NHL high and a record high for the franchis as well. Puck drop at the “X” at 6:30 p.m.
Timberwolves Return To Action
(Los Angeles, CA) — The Minnesota Timberwolves return to the court tonight in Los Angeles to take on the Clippers in their return from the All Star break. The Wolves kick off a tough four game road trip out west starting tonight in LA. Minnesota will play back to back to back games over the next three days. They are in LA tonight and tomorrow taking on the Clippers tonight then the Lakers on Wednesday and then its off to Phoenix to take on the Suns Thursday night before they head to Portland on Saturday to face the Trailblazers. Tonights tip off from Staples Center is set for 9:30 p.m.
Gopher Men Border Battle
(Madison, WI) — The University of Minnesota mens basketball team is in Wisconsin tonight to take on the Badgers in a tough border battle game. The two teams faced each other earlier this onth and it took overtime for the Badgers to defeat the Gophers. But the two teams have gone in oposite directions since then. The Gopher have lost five straight and are coming off their worst loss of the season on Sunday to the Indiana Hoosier. The Badgers may be playing their best ball of the season, they are ranked 15th in the country and coming off an upset win over Ohio State this past weekend. Tip off in Madison at the Kohl Center is set for 7 p.m..
Former Gopher Joel Pryzbilla Signs With Portland
(Portland, Or) — Former Minnesota Golden Gopher and Monticello native Joel Pryzbilla is back in the NBA after agreeing to terms with the Portland Trailblazers. Pryzbilla, an eleven year NBA veteran, has not played all season after spending last year in Charlotte. Pending a physical exam Pryzbilla will rejoin the team that he has played more than six seasons for. The seven footer has averaged 4 points, 6.3 rebounds and 15 blocks per game during his career.
