Pacers Trim Timberwolves
(Minneapolis, MN) — Danny Granger led the way with 36 points and seven rebounds as the Pacers took down the Timberwolves, 109-99. Kevin Love collected 21 points and 17 rebounds for Minnesota. Luke Ridnour finished with 16 points in the loss. The T’wolves are back on the court tomorrow evening as they square off against the New Jersey Nets at the Prudential Center.
Rubio Wins Monthly Honor
(New York, NY) — T’wolves guard Ricky Rubio has been named the Western Conference’s top rookie for the month of January. Rubio’s 8.9 assists per game average led all rookies, and his 2.24 steals per game also ranked tops among first-year players. Minnesota drafted Rubio as the fifth overall pick in the 2009 draft, making him the first player born in the 1990′s to be drafted in the NBA. Rubio, who is the 10th Spanish NBA player, reached an agreement to join the T’wolves this past season after coming over from FC Barcelona of the Spanish ACB League.
Wild On The Ice
(Denver, CO) — The Minnesota Wild are back on the ice this evening as they kick off a three-game road trip against the Colorado Avalanche at the Pepsi Center. The Wild had a two-game winning streak end with a 5-4 setback to Nashville on Tuesday to open up the second half of their season. Minnesota sits at 24-19-and-7 on the season.
Iowa Rallies Past Minnesota
(Iowa City, IA) — Matt Gatens scored 18 points as Iowa rallied for a 63-59 win over Minnesota in Iowa City. The Hawkeyes trailed by as many as 10 in the second half, but closed the game on a 9-0 run. Ralph Sampson the Third had 13 points for the Gophers, who dropped to 4-and-6 in Big Ten play and 16-and-7 overall. The Gophers head to Lincoln to wrap up this week’s play at Nebraska on Sunday afternoon.
