A Special Election was held in Martin County on Tuesday for a vacant county commissioner seat. The District 1 Martin County Board seat is empty following the resignation of Gerald Boler amidst accusations that he had double-billed the county for conference reimbursements for several years. District 1 covers the eastern portion of Martin County. The winner of Tuesday’s Special Election was former Truman mayor and city councilor Eliot Belgard, who received 262 votes to Winnebago Police Chief Bob Toland’s 206 votes. Voter turnout was approximately 20%. Belgard will be sworn in at the next Martin County Board meeting on February 21st. The seat will be up for election again this coming November as well.
