Sleepy Eye Fishing Derby and results 06 Feb 12

Hundreds of people turned out Sunday on Sleepy Eye Lake for the Sleepy Eye Sportsmen’s Club’s annual fishing derby. Many prizes were given away including an Ice Castle Fish House, valued at over $8000. Winner drawn was Jim Widmer of New Ulm.

Spokesman Larry Baumgardt says there were nine cash prizes as well as other prizes like a portable fish house, power ice auger and many door prizes for the kids. Top trophies in the game fish category went to Gary Lambreak, Carter Swenstol, Caden Evers, and Justin Wersal. In the pan fish category, top trophies went to Travis Raddatz, Ridge Lehmann, Randy Newman and Hunter White. Participants were allowed in a certain areas of the lake where the ice was around 12 inches thick. It was the 30th annual fishing derby.
