Some voters in Martin County will be heading to the polls on Tuesday for a Special Election for the county’s District 1 county board seat. A Primary Election was held for the seat in December, with the top 2 candidates in that contest moving on to Tuesday’s election for the seat. The top 2 vote-getters in the Primary were former Truman mayor and city councilor Elliot Belgard and Winnebago Police Chief Bob Toland. Polling places are open until 8pm Tuesday. Martin County’s District 1 covers the eastern portion of the county, including Truman, Granada, East Chain and the northeast section of Fairmont. The seat is vacant following the resignation of Gerald Boler, who admitted to double-billing the county for conference reimbursements. Following the Special Election on Tuesday the seat will also be on the ballot during the general election in November.
